‘Echoes of the Abyss’ is an audiovisual performance that celebrates the enchantment of the underwater soundscape.
The source of our sound palette is derived from an open-source audio live stream captured by hydrophones at a deep-sea cabled observatory off the coast of central California. Through an ongoing mutual transformation of sound and imagery based on various artificial intelligence approaches, immersing the audience in the mesmerizing hidden melodies of the ocean depths.
Each performer in our ensemble utilizes a distinct AI tool, including stable diffusion, data translation, etc., to interpret the captured sound source and create an improvisation. As the baton is passed from one performer to another, the composition evolves within a perpetual cycle of creation and response. This collaborative process blends various improvisational approaches such as live coding, music technology, and visual art, culminating in an interdisciplinary experience that aims to transcend traditional performance boundaries.
