‘Recycling Life’  is a documentary focusing on the waste recycling industry and its workers in Southwest China.
As China's urban economy rapidly develops, the original capacity for waste processing is vastly outpaced by the amount of waste produced. Garbage and waste are not just a matter of physical accumulation. Still, they are intricately linked to the rupture in social classes, economic and cultural differences between urban and rural areas, and the limited mobility of migrant workers.
The film documents the living conditions and work environments of scavengers and waste workers, their identity as a "non-agricultural, non-urban" marginal group, and the impact of government garbage classification policies on their lives.
